Pearlie Baluyut received her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Art History from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Baluyut is the recipient of several grants and awards, allowing her to conduct research in Los Angeles, Manila, Paris, and Bangkok as a two-time Fulbright U.S. Scholar (Student and Faculty Grant), a Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellow, and a Faculty Learning Community Participant through the NEH Humanities Initiative Grant, among others. Besides her journal publications, she co-edited Confrontations, Crossings, and Convergence: Photographs of the Philippines and the United States, 1898-1998 (UCLA, 1998) and authored Institutions and Icons of Patronage: Arts and Culture in the Philippines during the Marcos Years, 1965-1986 (UST Publishing House, 2012).
