'Modern China and Beyond' - followed by signing ceremony of IIAS-SASS agreement
On 24 April IIAS is signing an agreement with the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences to establish a SASS-IIAS Centre for China Studies in Leiden, and an IIAS-SASS Centre for China Studies in Shanghai. To celebrate this commemorative moment, the signing ceremony is preceded by a workshop and followed by a reception.
On 24 April, the International Institute for Asian Studies is organising a workshop on 'Modern China and Beyond', followed by a signing ceremony of an Agreement of Cooperation between IIAS and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS).
The Agreement provides for the establishment of an "SASS-IIAS Centre for China Studies" in Leiden and an "IIAS-SASS Centre for China Studies" in Shanghai. The two centres will assist in the exchange of scholars between both institutes and their partners, and promote further cooperation in joint projects.
The signing ceremony will be followed by a reception. Both the workshop and the signing ceremony, and drinks, are open for attendance, but please inform us if you plan to attend (registration is required).

During the workshop, both representatives of SASS and scholars from Leiden University will give lectures on ongoing research.

Signing ceremony of IIAS-SASS Cooperation Agreement
From 16.00 the Agreement of Cooperation will be signed in the Brasserie of the Academy Building by Prof. Zhen Wang, Vice-President of SASS, and Dr Philippe Peycam, Director of IIAS. The proceedings are witnessed by Prof. Carel Stolker, Rector Magnificus of Leiden University.
