Mount Kailas (Ti Se) situated in the western Tibetan region of the PRC is considered an ancient multi-faith pilgrimage site, and today it attracts pilgrims not only from Asia but from throughout the world.
My work problematises this understanding, while also embracing the various Kailas mountains found in the Indian Himalayas. Research is based on both historical texts and field-work.
