The International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) has launched a publication series on Asia Studies at Amsterdam University Press (AUP, see www.aup.nl/).

The IIAS Publications Series consists of Monographs and Edited Volumes. The Series publishes results of research projects conducted at the International Institute for Asian Studies.  Furthermore, the aim of the Series is to promote interdisciplinary studies on Asia and comparative research on Asia and Europe.

The new series is part of our efforts to strengthen Asia Studies scholarship.

IIAS commissions and directs the publication programme and handles all author contact prior to manuscript submission, while the practical tasks of setting, printing and distribution are handled by Amsterdam University Press.

The series is published and distributed by Amsterdam University Press (AUP). The distributor in the United States is Chicago University Press and the distribution in Asia is done by several academic publishers.

Distinguishing features of the series are:

  • Expedient production of books (in less than a year)
  • Relatively low prices (between 30-50 euro)
  • Considerable PR because of the globally distributed IIAS Newsletter, the well-visited websites and social networks
  • Exposure at the two-yearly Convention of Asia Scholars where the books of the series are launched
  • Excellent distribution in Europe, the United States (through Chicago University Press)
  • All the books in the series are available online through Open Access at www.oapen.org.

WE INVITE BOOK PROPOSALS ON ALL SUBJECTS WITHIN ASIA STUDIES

The many benefits of publishing through IIAS:

Young scholars

IIAS can offer short internships of up to 3 months to give young scholars the time to turn PhD theses into book manuscripts and/or post-doctoral proposals. IIAS can (help) pay conference costs for authors before and/or after publication of their books.

Events

IIAS can organize international conferences on the subject of new books soon after publication, aimed both at making new books known and at sparking discussion in the academic community. IIAS will organize book launches whenever possible, either as separate events or in connection with academic conferences or workshops.

Reviews

IIAS uses its extensive academic network and close relations with academic journals to ensure that reviews are made available quickly and circulated widely.

Promotion

  • IIAS books are produced and promoted by established, international academic presses with a proven global market reach
  • IIAS books are advertised in each issue of the IIAS Newsletter (circulation 20,000+) and on the popular IIAS website
  • IIAS books, including all relevant backlist titles, are on display at IIAS stands at all major academic conferences

HOW TO GET IN TOUCH

To discuss a book proposal for the IIAS publication programme or to find out about contractual terms, please contact IIAS, Dr Paul van der Velde or Martina van den Haak (MA) by phone on +(0)31 71 527 22 27, or by email p.g.e.i.j.van.der.velde@iias.nl or m.c.van.den.haak@iias.nl, or by post at IIAS,  P.O. Box 9500, 2300 RA Leiden, The Netherlands.
