Event — Buddhist Studies Lectures

Indigenous Elements in Tibetan Religion

Robert Mayer works on the early centuries of tantric religion in Tibet, from the 8th to 12th centuries. In this lecture, he will attempt to piece together the broader historical dynamics of this still little understood and poorly documented topic in Tibetan history.

He is University Research Lecturer at Oxford University, where he has been since 2002. Most of his work is done jointly with his wife, Dr Cathy Cantwell, also of Oxford University. Their most recent monograph is A Noble Noose of Methods, the Lotus Garland Synopsis: A Mahāyoga Tantra and its Commentary, Vienna, 2012. Austrian Academy of Sciences Press.
