IIAS Annual Report 2011

2011 was a very productive year. It saw the IIAS fully implement its new strategy to structure its activities and fellowship programme around the three thematic clusters: ‘Asian Cities’, ‘Global Asia’ and ‘Asian Heritages’.

IIAS Annual Report 2009

In many ways, 2009 was an eventful year for our Institute. In April, IIAS celebrated two special occasions. We gave the IIAS Newsletter a facelift and we launched the EC-funded Europe-Asia Policy Platform in Brussels. This platform, also referred to as ‘EUforAsia’, is an initiative of IIAS together with the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (both based in Singapore), and the European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS) in Brussels.

IIAS Annual Report 2008

IIAS is, first and foremost, an academic institution, but it also operates in collaboration with cultural and political institutions that focus on Asia. In 2008 the Board and Academic Committee revisited the vision and mission statement of the institute to bridge the gap between the original statements of a decade ago and the current practice.

IIAS Annual Report 2007

In 2007 the International Institute for Asian Studies continued its well-established activities and developed several new initiatives. We welcomed 80 research fellows. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Japanese National Institutes of the Humanities, an umbrella organisation covering five research institutes and museums. Under this arrangement researchers from the Netherlands can stay at one of the participating institutions in Japan and Japanese scholars can spend some time at IIAS.
